Salman Khan, Shahid Kapoor take ‘bald’ steps forward

Actors have always been required to do everything possible to get into the skin of their character — be it learning a dialect, changing their body language or even their appearance, like, for instance, going bald.
While Shahid Kapoor was recently seen with a bald pate in Haider, Emraan Hashmi will follow suit in Mr X. Here's a look at some Bollywood heroes who have sported a bald avatar in their films...

Shahid, who sports thick and smooth mane in the first half of Haider, is seen in a bald appearance for a bit in the second half. The actor knew from the beginning that he was required to go bald for the role and was willing to do so without any hesitation. And clearly, it has worked well for him and the film.

Sanjay Dutt
Film: Agneepath (2012)
Sanjay has always been appreciated for his muscular build and tough looks. The actor, whose long locks in films like Saajan and Khalnayak were a rage, shaved his head for Agneepath. Sanjay made a lasting impact, given that his negative character only seemed more evil and cruel with this look.

Actresses to have done the same
Seema Biswas and Lisa Ray
Film: Water (2005)
The film made headlines when Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das shaved their heads for the film. However, both of them dropped out of the project and Seema Biswas and Lisa Ray were signed on. Both these ladies also shaved their heads for their roles in the film.

Arjun Rampal
Film: Ra.One (2011)
Arjun is probably one of the few actors to have been open to experimenting with different hair styles in each of his films. If he grew his hair for his negative role in Om Shanti Om, he also went bald for Shah Rukh Khan's Ra.One. Even though he had to sport this bald look only for 15 minutes, he willingly got rid of his hair.

Aamir Khan
Film: Ghajini (2008)
Known to be a perfectionist, Aamir almost went bald for his role in Ghajini. The actor, who played a man suffering from anterograde amnesia, mostly sported this avatar in the second half of the film. Even though Aamir was given the option of using makeup to cover his hair, he refused and shaved his head for the role.

Salman Khan
Film: Tere Naam (2003)
The actor was among the first to take this step for his film Tere Naam. While he sports long hair in the first half, he is seen with a shaved head in the second part of the film. Salman, who plays a mentally ill character in the second half, created quite a buzz in the industry and among audiences with this look.
